However, companies had to subscribe to one of GitHub’s paid plans if they wanted to work on their private development with unlimited private repositories and collaborators. The new free tier specifically allows teams to manage their work together in one place: CI/CD, project management, code review, packages, and more. Teams who need advanced features (like code owners), enterprise features (like SAML), or personalized support can upgrade to one of GitHub’s paid plans. Effective immediately, GitHub has also announced a reduction in its paid Team plan from $9 per user/month to $4 per user/month. Going forward, existing customers will have their bills automatically reduced.
Customers who are currently paying annually for Pro and Team plans and signed up before April 14 will receive a refund for a prorated amount through the end of their annual billing term. These refunds will be processed in approximately 30 days. Once the refund is processed, a notification will be sent to their billing email. Friedman thanked GitHub’s Enterprise customers whose rapidly growing use of GitHub made the change possible for all the start-ups and small teams around the world.
