The Apple Pencil is designed to be used with the larger iPad, which is aimed at professional artists and designers. According to Jonathan Ive, Apple’s chief design officer, the Pencil will allow a new precision in drawing on the screen of the iPad, responding to different levels of pressure and different angles. With pressure sensors, it can detect how hard you are pushing on the screen and change the width of the line you draw accordingly....

On September 14, two law firms, Migliaccio & Rathod LLP [PDF] and Bursor & Fisher [PDF] independently filed class-action lawsuits against Apple in the Northern District Of California for selling M1-powered MacBook Air and Pro notebooks with retina displays that are vulnerable to screen cracks during normal usage. Scientists at Queen Mary University of London (QMUL) have developed a new material using a composite material with nano-size particles that has been able to make test objects “disappear.” For the first time, researchers demonstrated a practical cloaking device that has the ability to make curved objects seem flat to electromagnetic waves. The researchers state that they discovered two different vulnerabilities, one of which affects the web interface that allows an attacker to connect to a camera with a Telnet service. The second flaw makes it possible to compromise the root account, which allows the attacker to take complete control of vulnerable devices and use them to spy, or to disrupt camera functionality, or to launch attacks on other enterprise systems, or to make the devices part of a Mirai-like botnet....

Haifa-based Wintego has released brochures for its CatchApp tool which it calls as a WhatsApp interceptor. Wintego promises that the Catchall App has an “unprecedented capability” to break through WhatsApp encryption and grab full data from a target’s account. It does so through a “man-in-the-middle” (MITM) attack; in theory, the traffic is intercepted between the app and the WhatsApp server and somehow the encryption is decoded by the device, though that may not be possible with the latest upgrades to the software’s cryptography....

The Sunway TaihuLight supercomputer, located at the state-funded Chinese National Supercomputing Center in Wuxi, Jiangsu province was on Monday named the world’s fastest computer at the International Supercomputing Conference in Germany. The EVs produced at the Great Wall factory will be aimed at the mass market and carry Xiaomi’s branding, said two of the sources, who declined to be identified as the information is not public.
